A suite of hand-carved, silvered and gilt-varnished green painted Grotto Furniture. Compromising a settee with three seats in the form of open scallop shells interspersed with conch and clam shells. Armrests in the form of dolphins and supported by conch shell legs, accompanied with a similar pair of armchairs and a single side chair, including a very rare corresponding bench with scallop shell decor, The legs shaped in the form of dolphins. The subject of The Grotto remained popular in the 18th and 19th Century In Europe.
